Shut up! Oburu tells off those demanding sacking of ODM affiliates in government
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga speaks during a tour in Kakamega on January 18, 2026. Photo/ODMOrange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Onginga has dismissed calls to remove the party’s affiliates serving in President William Ruto’s government.Oburu, in a meeting with religious leaders from Nyanza region on Friday, questioned how the removal of the said officials would benefit the region. “Kenya is not yours Kenya is for everybody so I am telling those who are demanding the sacking of our people who are in government to shut up,” said the ODM leader. In his argument, the parties calling for the removal of ODM-affiliated government officials would not benefit from emerging vacancies. “If they are sacked, will you get a replacement from this area?” he paused. He used the platform to defend party members facing public criticism, framing the backlash as politically motivated.Recently, there have been calls for removal of Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi over the Ksh. 4.8 billion fuel scandal.Oburu had earlier dismissed calls for Wandayi’s removal, terming them as political witch hunts. “Attempts at public lynching of cabinet secretaries Lee Kinyanjui and Opiyo Wandayi, who are not accounting officers, as some leaders are attempting, will only derail the investigations and politicise the scam as we Kenyans are wont to do,” said Oburu in a statement on April 7. Wandayi and Kinyanjui, who are Energy and Trade ministers respectively, have been targets of scrutiny over their involvement in the illegal importation of fuel. ©Citizen Digital, Kenya
